Have you ever played Green Hell? Insanity mode totally freaked me out and had to take a breather and get all my fam on Discord to hear their shrieks and screams lol

 

I've got it wishlisted, along with The Forest and some similar survival games. Both of those look cool just waiting for good sales... I really love Rust but I actually like to play it on PVE servers bc I just like to go off and do my own thing.. really abnormal player for Rust in this regards but the game is beautiful and none of these other survival games touch it in terms of atmosphere IMO. Its a shame there isn't really a single player game that equals it because all Rust servers are forced to erase everything monthly & I just want to establish my place and keep going.. I don't need a story or zombies or any of that.. I just want a totally immersive forest environment where I can build, hunt, etc... like minecraft for adults

There's a game only on Epic platform currently called Among Trees that comes pretty close to that, but not quite the realism I'm looking for...

 

We play a ton of open world survival games. I play Raft on easy mode for casual single player experience. I am the cook and fisherman when playing multiplayer. I think I have Rust also be to be honest don't remember playing it. lol For single player or multiplayer though Green Hell was totally worth it.

 

I'll keep it in mind for sure... I was really interested in The Forest just bc it seems more inclined towards building a cabin in the woods and being able to continually expand on it, but Green Hell looks great. I've got some that I haven't tried yet like Stranded Deep. Still need to finish up Subnautica, and eventually start up No Man's Sky again (haven't played it since initial release). No Man's Sky actually seems pretty close to what I'd like except its a space game.

Rust is great but its a very harsh experience as a new player. Its also the kind of game where you have to dedicate a huge amount of time to if you want to play it... except if you do the PVE servers which eliminates PVP and makes it more laid back. That's all I do now bc I don't have the time to play Rust all day

Our family all share their steam libraries with each other so we can try games one of us owns before we all buy it. Might try to find someone willing to share their library with you. I've discovered several games I wound up not enjoying but would have purchased and others I loved that I expected to dislike, like Cryofall and Craftopia. Subnautica is beautiful, and we have Stranded deep and no mans sky also.
