I'm all for performance bonuses, but a base pay should be granted that meets the time required... and the hits that involve audio experiments are usually so bad that even with top performance, the bonus doesn't even being it up to acceptable pay rate...

 

You can say that again. Usually not worth the time unless there's a lull. I'm looking at you AudioKline and Comp(something-or-another)

You're looking for the wrong thing. It's all a giant scheme to alert me to lucrative HITs so I can horde them all to myself

 

I mean.. we can pontificate on the predatory and underpaying requesters all day. I think its just part of being a Turker to learn to self-filter out the garbage (or run enough scripts that your browser starts eating more RAM than Chrome with 20 tabs open)

If the platform suddenly started getting more fair and equal paying.. there'd certainly be a larger influx of people than we are currently seeing and Amazon might have to start making it a more formal job offering. Letting the bad requesters in with the good allows Amazon to keep the gig/contract worker thing going, makes them much more money, and gives them some ammo for fighting off turning the platform into an actual job. As long as there are new turkers looking to grind up numbers and people willing to work on those less than $1/hr HITs, I don't think we'll see any real movement in the underlying nature of the beast

I akin Turking to storage sheds (which i used to do as a lucrative side hustle until that cursed TV show really inflated everything).

 

Now there's a modern day CT (conspiracy theory) fitting CT (Chris Turk) and programmers in general. I've got a good anecdotal reference to a project I worked on eons ago called Nesticle. One update to the code we pushed caused the program to automatically fire up the floppy drive and therefore turn on the green indicator light. One brilliant savant deduced that were were stealing all the information on his hard drive by scanning all available media and extracting that information. Now.. mind you.. this is 56k modem days. Dumping that kind of information and transferring it ... god.. the logistics alone scare me.

 

I mean, we all know it, so is it really a scheme?

 

I have numerous witnesses who will testify that the #1 way to keep me away from a lucrative batch is to tell me about how great it is.

my biggest complaint with McD are the hour long ones that make you listen to the most annoying noises of all time and find a word or vibration, etc underneath. I'm not horrible on the bonuses but they should at least pay a decent base pay for the time and tedious pain involved. & sadly, they are actually pretty good about their time estimates which makes it even stupider to not pay a fair base.
