I'd laugh, not gonna lie.

 

The only issue I could see with this is that like all big corporate businesses, your only role their won't be as a personal shopper. That's what they'll hire you for, but you'll probably be moved into doing stock, being a cashier, pushing carts, customer service, etc pretty quickly. It'll start to wear on you eventually. The $16 is tempting, especially for retail. The vet gig would be better for you sanity though.

I mean, its Walmart yes.....but I'd def just try it out to see if I could stand the CHAOS that is Walmart for $16/hr. If it's terrible, RUN lol

 

"gotta love to do it" is a red flag from any employer, you work for income. If it's for charity or the goodness of your heart, that's what volunteer work is for. Someone that wants to pay so low, knows WHY they can't get people but won't offer more, they are going to overwork/under pay you like crazy. If you are going to get abused either way, may as well take the higher pay.

 

I love animals and probably should have went to school to be a vet but I'm old now so I missed that window, I didn't realize how low the rest of the industry paid, I was just trying to get into something I thought would give me something rewarding that I liked.

I'm in the same boat as you.....in a creek.....smells really strange.....no paddle......upstream.....LOL you are not alone

 

Does that position pay that low everywhere? If not I would put up with it for 6 months or so get the experience and go to the next better paying vet.

 

I've heard from so many people that they hated working at Walmart and also that they are pretty strict. I bet you'd probably enjoy the vet job more. If it were me I would choose the vet job because who wouldn't love to be around animals. But if you need the income then go with what your gut is telling you.

the other side of this is slower stores who will hire folks and then cut their hours later... this is probably a bigger worry for non-unionized large scale retailers right now. Higher hourly up front is great to get you in the door until you either get cut from full to part-time or as a "36 hour" part timer start getting 20 hours a week. Its an awful industry.

 

They all pay really low, only the actual vet or someone who is a tech that has a degree make any money and the techs make like 16 an hour...they have degrees.

Literally being an assistant for doctor visit, giving shots, surgery prep all down the line is a 12-14 dollar an hour gig.

 

On the upside either one is better than what I'm doing now.
