I don't make this mistake very often, but occasionally it happens:

Late in a 20+ minute survey, one page consists of one paragraph and one row of bubbles.

While I'm reading the first half of the paragraph, I figure that one of the bubbles is very probably the right one, so I click it while I'm reading (oops)...

I mean, I'm thinking there's no problem if I need to change my choice, then I can simply click a different bubble, right?

At the end of the paragraph, the final sentence delivers the dreaded surprise:

"... please do not click any choice below."​

Now imagine my predicament (maybe you've been there). – I'm still on the same page (haven't clicked to the next yet), and I really want to fix my little mistake, but ... there's no way to "unclick" the bubble.

I tried reloading the page, hoping it would "forget" that the button was clicked. But unfortunately, the selected choice was already recorded on the server, so the survey script re-activated the button. No way to turn it off.

I even considered editing the HTML code to turn off the button; but that would only turn it off in my browser, not on the server.

Finally I conceded defeat, and returned the survey — 20 minutes of good work lost..

Yes I know the question was an ATTENTION check. Yes, I absolutely should have read the entire paragraph before clicking anything. I know.

"In my defense":
I was fully attentive, so this was NOT a case of lapse in ATTENTION — but I made a bad decision to do a "preliminary click" while reading the paragraph. I absolutely should not have done that, I know. And the rules decided by the requester are the rules, I know. – Still, considering the circumstances in this case, I wonder whether the requester would really want to prohibit my attempted correction (my attempt to de-select the button). Was it really justifiable to require sacrificing the work and returning the survey in this case?

I want to defend myself against this unusual predicament, in which I was attentive but made the bad decision to do a preliminary click while reading, quickly noticed the mistake (without leaving the page), and I wasn't allowed to correct it.

Further, I also want to defend against a similar situation that happened to me once (a few months ago) and may happen again sometime – in which a premature click was totally accidental, due to an inadvertent slip of a finger (because my mouse's buttons are highly sensitive to the slightest touch, so genuinely accidental clicks do indeed happen occasionally). Again in such a case I would like to correct the error by de-selecting a button.

At risk of being accused of cheating, I am considering the use of a highlighter script, which would mark every instance of the word "don't" or the phrase "do not" on a survey page – so that I'll never again miss a note asking me not to click any answer. I have such a script already prepared for other purposes, and now I'm thinking about using it with surveys.

Lol, I do that sometimes too.

I used to have two scripts running that would allow me to unclick a radio button (type a tilde, solve a simple math problem and it would unclick). It used to be there but it's gone now

Can anyone remember the name of that script and if it was through tampermonkey or greasyfork? Ugh! Thanks!
