I think a lot of it has to do with the idea of trusting computers vs. humans. I mean it's like the debate about autonomous cars.. Everyone is like hmmm idk if a computer would be safer... Oh really? Would you feel better about your pilot flying the entire flight without his computer taking control?

I think a lot of companies just don't trust algorithms to replace human decisions yet. Never. Trust. The. Robots.

That's a very good point, and I think you're onto something there.

Sometimes, though, it's just parsing attributes in a database and that feels like it defeats the whole purpose of even having a database.
(As in, just write a proper query )

 

IME a lot of them just have no clue. Its so easy since we work on these things every day to see where the efficiency improvements can be implemented, but there's still a massive portion of the population who don't have great (or any) computer skills. I mean even in our community there's only a handful of people writing scripts for hundreds?

I ask requesters if they mind if I automate part/all of a HIT if it can be done and of the half dozen or so I can think of I've only had one say something similar to "no I don't trust computers" and it was more of a "I'd prefer if you didn't." Mostly though its just "I had no idea you could do that." Then they disappear silently to make some poor grad student learn JS/what have you.

You should be using hit catcher that is included in http://mturksuite.com/ or pandacrazy. (Well technically if you are a crazy mofo you can code your own stuff but very few people are willing to go that far)

 

I use turkmaster though that does use a lot of page requests
