I file US Fed. 1040 SR(for seniors), Schedule C (Profit / Loss from Business), Schedule SE (self-employment), & 8995 (deductions) + NY State. I use TurboTax faithfully, though it used to be free, cause it takes all the stress out of it. Never had a problem on returns.

 

I am using turbo tax, too. It directed me to those schedules as well. .

 

Last five years of doing any of the free return programs I've done it as self employed, and there's never been an issue. I've even verified with the IRS that there isn't an issue when calling in for other stuff.

Seconding the others on the self-employment income route. Never been a problem here.

In fact - self-employed people can also set up and administer their own retirement accounts, and contribute pre-tax funds toward them.
