Thank you everyone for the replies about health information!

Many thanks for the advice/links about free clinics - I had no idea about such free/low-cost/sliding scale medical clinics - as it turns out, there are several in my city. My father was going to see about setting up an appointment with his urologist, but this may be a better option for no costs.

I'm sure the guys will laugh at this (one benefit of being a dude) - I had the genius (I think it's genius...lol) idea of peeing into a mason jar to make sure/inspect the color better. The one I mentioned at the last of my message was definitley bloody (remember primary colors from kindergarten - red + yellow = orange... it was pinky/orange). Thankfully last three times have been perfectly normal (I'm well aware there can still be microscopic red blood cells present), but this at least helps with current anxiety.

About Government help - I applied for SSI many years ago, went through so many appointments/interviews, saw a virtual judge, and waitied over a 1 & 1/2 years only to be rejected. It was a catch-22 scenario - they said I needed better/more up-to-date medical reports to qualify, but that's exactly why I was needing the assistance in the first place - to be able to afford the doctors visits/tests! At least I was able to receive SNAP benefits so I can eat!

I know what you mean about all of this.. what you have to go through to receive SNAP benefits or disability, etc, is insane

But with the healthcare application, all I had to do was fill out an online application and then wait for the approval/benefit card in the mail.

Medicaid is different then SSI

The Affordable Care Act put medicaid expansion on the table to make low cost or even free insurance available to many more people. I live in NY, and the low cost part is a joke to be honest. When my husband was laid off during the pandemic, his salary made it so that the monthly premium was nearly as much as his unemployment benefits. But, YMMV; it doesn't hurt to just check it out..

If you live in a state where there was no medicaid expansion (there are only a handful), there is still assistance for health insurance.

If your state participates in expansion, there will be a marketplace. If not, healthcare.gov can help you out too.
