I just got this message from that survey this morning that was telling everyone to return it because we failed attention checks:

"Hello there, a glitch in this study kicked everyone out of the study for "failing an attention check" even though there was no attention check. To ensure you are fairly compensated for your time, I'm accepting your study so you can receive payment. Also, all data for this study will be permanently deleted since the study was not completed. If you have reported this study as a scam, I would greatly appreciate your reversing your complaint. I am a doctoral student conducting research who just had some bad luck with a Qualtrics glitch in coding. Thank you for your time, and I sincerely apologize for the confusion. If you have any other questions, please message me."

 

Meanwhile.... Ugh! Always during a batch...

 

I agree. People here speak highly of Prolific. In all the time I have been doing prolific I can thing of at least three times that there was an issue with payments through Paypal and it took a few days to resolve. Just chill...we will all get our money.

I think it is commendable that Cloud Research is being transparent about this issue and keeping everyone updated. It is also commendable that they are putting in place a workaround.

I got it too! I was scratching my head over that, wondering what I missed. That was really cool of them to reach out and pay us.

 

She had to apologize, I reported her to prolific and gave them the text of all of the back and forth messages this morning. She sent that less than an hour after I reported her.

 

I ended up with $37.42 today across all 3 platforms. I thought I did better than that, but I just added it all up.

I just told a req on Connect that they should have paid far more for the survey. They wrote back saying they're a Phd student and are very apologetic...if they get better funding in the future they'll "make it right." They approved me. So far that's the most I've heard from less-than-favorable review. But honestly, I just don't leave a review most of the time b/c I'm not sure it's worth anything.

I left a bad review for a requester once who gave out an unpaid screener. Told them they should at minimum add qualifications to their descriptions to not waste our time.

Next time their survey popped up, the requirements were listed in their description, so there is that at least.

 

I've had many researchers come back long after the fact when they end up with money left over or more funding. It's great feedback for them and something that an ethical researcher would dwell on late at night.

 

I don't know how they have it set up over there, but I have talked to requesters on MTurk who had no idea they had crazy writing crap for attention checks. They thought they were paying a fair wage. There's also one who couldn't figure out why many of their participants for a multi-part survey project never came back, only to discover the infamous CR2 destroyed her study half way through. I wish these people would speak up on forums.
