nah that is extremely specific deduction, you aren't allowed to use your office space for anything other than work to claim in

i also already forgot if you are allowed you claim it while doing the standard deduction. The standard deduction is way more than itemized for me

Yes, you would have to make sure that it is applicable to your office/home setup. Yeah the standard deduction is something I am still trying to figure out, when it comes to what is the best way to utilize it.

Its pretty clear cut for me - you either take the standard or itemized. If you don't have enough deductions that add up to more than the standardized amount, then you go with standardized and forget about trying to add your deductions

If you pay a mortgage, you should be able to claim the mortgage interest as deduction and that could make itemized worthwhile

Okay. Yeah, I always assumed that you put in your itemized deductions, then compared it to the standard deduction, and finally chose the greater of the two deductions at the end.

That is a good reason to have a mortgage too, plus owning instead of renting.

Standard Deduction is $12,950, so most people aren't going to come anywhere close to that for doing Itemized. Its not even worth trying to compare most of the time.

Oh, dang. For some reason my standard deduction this year was like nothing. But last year it was around that amount.

 

As someone with a mortgage, it isn't enough on its own. I don't think I've ever itemized. The standard deduction is just too high.
