Another thing worth mentioning that could be of help with finances, the Affordable Connectivity Program which gives you a $30 credit every month for your internet bill. All you have to do is submit proof of your income to qualify and then submit your approval to your ISP. You can immediately qualify if you already get any other govt programs like medicaid, SNAP, SSI

Hey, that sounds really rough and I'm sorry that you're struggling and going through that right now.

Apply for SNAP benefits today if you haven't already. There's no shame at all in it, if you meet the income requirements (don't exceed the limits), you should be able to qualify. It may take a few weeks to officially get enrolled, so file and apply for that today. If you get on it, it's literally a debit card that you can use specifically for food. Amounts vary, but $200 or more per month is not uncommon.

The other thing you've got to do is go to a food bank. If you're in the US, you can call 211 and they can direct you to resources. I've volunteered at a food bank before, you have to call 211 to make an appointment, but you should be able to get in same day. If you don't have transportation to get to the food bank, 211 should be able to help you with that too.

Again, no shame in going to a food bank. There's a ton of good, high quality, nutritious food available. These are not cast offs, the one I worked at got like 90% of it in as fresh new food ordered in bulk from a regional food bank warehouse. 8-9% of it was donations from local grocery stores, and 1% or less was citizen donations. Basically the food bank/pantry acts as a normal grocery store, you just don't have to pay for what you get.

The people working there will not judge you at all. These are people who specifically chose to do that specific job because they like helping people and they want to feed people. I encourage anyone who meets the income requirements (less than several hundred percent of federal poverty line) to sign up/call and get food there. It's a way to knock out one of your core expenses and save your self several hundred dollars per month that can be used on other things. Again, this is exactly what the people working there want. It's not an option of last resort, it's a hand up to help you cover one of your basic expenses so you can focus on other things.

And the food is like good good. Where I worked, there were staples - cereal, rice, pasta, beans, peanut butter, cooking oil, canned fruits and vegetables, meat, milk, juice, butter, cheese, eggs, a constant varying supply of different kinds of produce, some dessert things, and occasionally things like meal kits. You never know exactly what's going to be there, so it's always a surprise. The people there want to help you, and speaking from experience, they like the food just as much as any of the customers who come in to get it.

Call 211 today. Let them know what's up. Let them know you need food. They'll be able to help you for sure.

Then, you can report back here and let us know how it went. You're not the only one in a situation like this, your success with doing this could help someone else too.

If you have any other questions or anything, you can ask me here or send me a message.

Things can get better. These are the first steps.

Thanks for your reply. Last time I looked into SNAP there was an employment requirement of some sort that I didn't meet. I've dealt with the food bank before and told myself I never would again. They were awful people. The ones volunteering there are great, but the higher ups made me feel so stereotyped that I'll never go back...and the world wonders why people stop attending church, ha. I do appreciate your comment and you're right, maybe it will benefit someone else as well!

Try both again. Seriously. You can get a SNAP application filled out and submitted, and a call to 211 made, in less than an hour. Try a different food bank if you didn't like the other one. Even small towns usually have several. We're out here turk working for a few bucks an hour. Surely you'd do something that takes an hour or less and can save you hundreds of dollars per month every month. Bare down and do it. We're here for moral support.

Hey. I'm in a situation similar to yours, actually - just change the GERD for MS, and the late rent to a landlord that let their house go into foreclosujre whilst I was renting a room from them, in a state I'd just moved to with no friends or family/support system. Now I'm staying at a $60-a-day motel, with no transport or whatever. Didn't really want to spill my personal stuff here, but I wanted to let you know you aren't alone. I feel for you, I'm right there with you. If you ever need someone to talk to, please message me. And seriously, SNAP is where it's at. At the very least, apply for it.

Connect, MTurk, and a few other small things here and there. Unfortunately Prolific won't give me a chance, they won't tell me why either. I'm not the only victim to that from what I researched.

Try paidviewpoint as well. It will take you a couple of months get up there for your score to get good paying stuff but it's just a few surveys a day. I make on average $3-4$ a day on there now.

Thanks and sorry to hear that! I can relate to how you feel, I used to have to live in my car ( that shelter alone was a blessing) and hotel hop when I could afford it, so I can absolutely relate there! I'm proud of myself for overcoming that and it just feels like dejavu now. I'll look back into the SNAP thing and see if maybe something has changed. I was approved like 8 yrs ago, but only got $16/month lol.

Yep, been with them for several months. It's been hit or miss these past few months with them. I guess demographics has a lot to do with it. My very first survey there I got paid $75 to go buy a bag of chocolate candy. Was a great first impression, but that hasn't happened again since. I think I've been making like $15 every 2 months roughly from them now. I don't like how they keep switching the required cash out amount around from $5-$15 randomly. My traitscore is maxed out too btw. Thanks for your reply!

I can also relate to struggling with everything, not having any social network and nobody to talk to. I try not to bleed my personal issues into these threads but sometimes I do anyway - its a natural inclination when this is the only place where I regularly interact with other people any more.

On a related note, I've been considering creating a Discord server to invite everyone to for a more laid back, social chat area with still some focus on making money through these platforms. Wouldn't be meant to replace the functionality of this forum or anything, and I know there are already social subforums here, but I thought a more private chatroom is better suited to more personalized/social/unrestricted convos. Wasn't sure if anyone would be interested, or maybe there's already a chat like this I'm not on

    Just puttin' that out there

A discord sounds super fun ngl. The channels could keep things organized too so that it's not just one stream of consciousness like the forum thread seems to be.

We will ask you to report your current mood and answer some questions about a product purchase scenario. The survey should take about five minutes and you will be paid 75 cents for completing it.
