why would they bother when what they're doing now means they can continue to drive anyone who expects to make over $10/hr off the site while claiming they're just trying to save bandwidth (or whatever it is the insane throttling is allegedly meant to achieve)

 

I spoke to someone at Amazon and was told the idea they are trying to save bandwidth is ridiculous, since they are a web based company. I got the impression they installed some kind of "security software" that is causing these problems. All the years they ran the place just fine with many Turkers maxing out their daily allowed hits with no trouble, I don't get it.

Maybe if people hammered them on social media like when their cloud service went down they would pay more attention.

Oh, huh, really? Thanks for the info, I was not aware of that (and now the degree to which people are annoyed makes a bit more sense)
However: I may be overly cynical, but I just can't see Amazon caring about the opinions of so-easily-replaceable workers. Maybe if you could get a group of requesters to do it, it might have some effect...

 

Yes. I've perfected the exasperated glare. And I try to focus my thoughts on the extra calories I burn every time my heart rate goes up (and that's a lot!).

 

I think just the fact that it's brought up on social media will get their attention.

Evidently they don't care too much about MTurk anymore since they let CloudResearch literally destroy the place. I'm grateful requesters have been steering me to Prolific for two and a half years, but I do like the batch work. Amazon sure could use some help sorting their store, it's a royal mess.
