In the TOS (https://www.mturk.com/acceptable-use-policy), they say "You may not use, or encourage others to use, MTurk for any illegal, harmful, fraudulent, infringing, or objectionable activities."

So from what I gather, paying big bonuses through $0.00 HITs looks like money laundering to them. And basically it's at their discretion if they want to ban for that.

 

Thank goodness, I'm so glad they're finally taking this seriously and working on it. I wonder how I and a couple other people got it fixed and why they can't do it on a mass scale.

 

Can you share the timeline of your emails? It sounds like maybe your case was a verification of fixing the issue.

I noticed you said your amazon payments account was verified before it was suspended. I wonder if that is why yours and a few other people's were fixed. but I mean I didn't check mine in the runup to this suspension, no idea if it was verified or unverified. I know after I couldn't turk, it says I have to verify it, then it says I'm "not eligible" for an amazon payments account.

It's Amazon logic. I believe one of the last mass account suspensions in the past was for very large bonuses given in HITs. TurkOpticon had to step in and get all those suspensions reversed.

 

@turker You never did answer my question on what you meant by points, so I'm just going to assume you meant the credit score function and answer as such.


The short version is? It works like an actual credit score.

The long version? It works like an actual credit score, so it's about as straight-forward as how our credit score system works. Rejections, AI-based Attention Checks (whatever the hell that means) and a refusal to use an ID will apparently bring it down, while have a lot of approved studies and a verified ID will bring it up. The system is intentionally designed to be obtuse and serves, from my understanding, the *bulk* of how will you get studies.

 

my bank account still says verified right now so I would assume it did before too and i'm still suspended

although to be fair i've also been too lazy to dive into that maze and actually email them with all the talk of people getting the runaround

 

That sounds awful. Was that the ‘pandemic game study’ or was that a different mturk suspension disaster?

 

From what I could gather, apparently it was the US Military.

 

The hell is happening here? I figured Amazon emailing back saying they’re aware and actively working to fix the problem would settle down the vibe and yall chose violence instead.

I think the people reinstated had accounts that weren’t as broken as other accounts. Or they’re piloting the fix on a few accounts before addressing the body of workers affected. Either way it’s coming.

 

I'm not sure what HIT it was (I just know about it but not the details), but @redsfan33 or @Fearless Turtle should be able to chime in.

It was the pandemic game, and I helped the requester test a new layout after we all got our accounts back so it won't trigger suspensions anymore. If you have not done it, I thought it was fun, and the time went really fast for me.
