I got accepted onto the Connect site last night and it has outperformed Mturk by far. I am debating on buying that $70 phone for getting verification on the newer sites. I have made the goal of $25-30 on Connect already today. Is prolific/data annotation similar in potential to this connect site?

 

Take all you can get now. Once they have you in their system, it could be different.
Prolific is good, don't depend on one site.

I logged into connect to see if they had anything worthwhile for me. it's just hanging, constant "loading" symbol in the middle of the screen. and the other times there's been one or two surveys for me. that site is a joke for me.

 

A lot depends on your demographics. Some people make up to $50 a day, while others make as little as $0.50. Prolific also doesn’t let you queue 99.9% of tasks, so timing plays a big role.

Keep in mind, getting accepted isn’t guaranteed. Depending on your demographics, you might find yourself waiting a while or not getting in at all.

Also, Prolific has a quirky IP policy. Some people get accepted, only to find out their ISP is blocked. If you're using a major provider, you're probably fine, but if you have something like Hughesnet or a local ISP, you might run into problems. It's worth checking out r/Prolific on Reddit before making any commitments.

And about the phone, it shouldn’t set you back that much. Double-check with @laby and others to see what's worked for them.

 

My ISP is charter/spectrum. I think $70 is the price of the phone with service for a year that was suggested to me yesterday. The universe heard me be excited about the surveys on connect and it dried up after I posted but still good enough for me if it was like this everyday. Thanks for your advice and everyone elses here I appreciate it.

Get your numbers up and get some quals. Avoid requesters with a history of rejections. A few closed quals will serve you well.

 

It was just a bit of a sarcastic post because I keep getting surveys where you must be a user of one of those social media apps especially on Connect.
