I did some actual googleing and it could be a few 'features' causing this to happen.

It could also be because of driver issues on your on board sound card..

But using a DAC/AMP with optical out will bypass that most likely anyways because you will have a driverless setup.

 

Because getting blocked wasn't bad enough

 

Just noticed my $13 one that was pending is also rejected. I'll be giving him a little nasty gram. what an ash hole, prob ran out of funding with those over the top bonuses.

Thanks for the information and research but that doesn't seem to be an issue. When I first installed Linux and maxed my volume a dialog box came up warning me that this might harm the speakers and basically "Idk if I would do this shit were I you" which I clicked through and no problems. I can also boost the volume higher in certain applications like VLC where I can boost it past 100% so it seems to be some arbitrary restriction.
