Thanks for the information and research but that doesn't seem to be an issue. When I first installed Linux and maxed my volume a dialog box came up warning me that this might harm the speakers and basically "Idk if I would do this shit were I you" which I clicked through and no problems. I can also boost the volume higher in certain applications like VLC where I can boost it past 100% so it seems to be some arbitrary restriction.

Oh that is just software audio boosting. It makes your audio sound like shit though.

I suggest getting a DAC/AMP is you want your shit to still sound good and be loud.

What are you running that your onboard audio has a hard time driving anyways? Outside of audiophile stuff most stuff is fairly easy to drive to a lot louder than I even suggest.

They're just some HP OEM speakers. I'm not trying to run them too loud since they're powered by whatever usb outputs. I just know that in anything other than windows I can go about 65% louder without distortion. Do you know of anyway to enable software audio boost universally?

Oh they are USB speakers so they do have an aboard DAC.. just a cheap one most likely. Make sure that you have your audio mixer stuff on windows to have the volume maxed
