Well, as an example, I spent about 12 years learning guitar, about 6 of those years learning gypsy jazz, practicing 2-3 hours a day from the age of around 6 until I was flown out to an interview with an admissions director at Juilliard when I was asked why I wanted to attend, before I was able to say I didn't want to attend, I don't even like music.
