Not really related to Turk, but I think having a set schedule is good for the soul. Sleep is my big weak point in my life, I'm a night owl personally so I'm super prone to murdering my own sleep schedule (especially since I like to chat w/ folks who are west-coast based and they have the luxury of "staying up late" lol).

RA has the worst sleep habits of anyone I've ever seen and he does fine on mTurk, so its not necessary by any means. If you like surveys being up for the east coast requesters will help but I don't think the hours you're online for mTurk will ever be the make or break point (unless you're just on perma-third shift or w/e the night crew does).

Heck, mirror PST business hours may be the best strategy, mTurk is kinda tech heavy as far as requester barrier to entry goes so there may be something to using those hours.

I got one of these and love it except the way the stitching is in the top part. It makes these indents and I have to position myself just right so my elbows each go in one or it keeps me up at night. I have to sleep on my back because I have bad shoulders and can't sleep on my sides so you may not have that problem.

I wanted this one as it's better quality but I couldn't afford it at the time. If I had it to do over, I would have bought this one anyways and just turked harder to make up the difference.

Try out mattresses in the store before you pick one. Find a store that will let you lay on the mattresses for at least 15 minutes each. I couldn't stand the memory foam ones. It was like the mattress was getting me. I felt like I couldn't move and was being sucked into the mattress. Some people like that feeling though, I guess. Also, some memory foam mattresses hold in heat and if you get hot at night when you sleep (most people do) you'll be sweating up a storm. I really like the latex mattress with a topper. You get the comfort of the plush top but the support of the latex.

In my opinion, it's worth the money to splurge on a mattress. Most of us spend about a third of our life sleeping and sleep deprivation does horrible things to you. I have lots of problems sleeping and 9 times out of 10 don't get enough sleep. It's hell. I'm not one of the lucky ones that can run on less sleep and be okay. Seriously, you're worth spending more on a mattress to get better sleep. You can save money on not getting a "box spring" if you get a the right frame, too. You have to make sure that the supports (slats) on the frame are close enough together to keep your mattress warranty valid. I went through all this last year when I got mine. Also, if you choose a frame that is higher away from the floor you can get storage boxes to put underneath. I have clothes in plastic rolling storage bins so I can rotate my seasonal clothes from the closet.

@Trickydude24 you may be interested in the above as well.

I may sleep in on week day if it's my I HAVE to catch up on sleep day and I don't work my day job that day or the next. I don't sleep well so every once in a while I have to try and make myself sleep in to catch up or I feel sick and want to murder people at work.

Thanks for the useful information! I can relate to the memory foam thing being hot, I used to have a memory pillow and I'd wake up with my head in a deep sweat. I did come across some that had gel inside, which may help with keeping cool. And I agree with trying out mattresses beforehand, especially before dropping that kind of money on it. Thanks so much!
