    Man..what a trip. My daughter flew home to Ft Lauderdale today. They got their luggage and got on the shuttle fifteen minutes before the shooting started. Count you blessings folks.

    I work in the IT field specifically in the areas of disaster recovery and long term data management. The cage is referring to a data cage within a hosting facility or within privately held datacenters. Backup power and lots of cooling well that all necessary to keep things running smoothly. "The light are out" refers to unmanned offsite remote management. Blinking lights well that should be obvious but it refers to status lights, activity lights and link aggregation equipment lights. Hot sites and cold sites refer to the readiness of particular locations. On the coast was where I was at considering these were cold sites that literally needed to be brought online and so someone had to physically be there so I went into the evacuation zone while other usually evacuate depending on the site.

    So if everyone was evacuating and damage was expected to occur, why would those cold data sites need to be brought online?

    Well redundancy for one and most cold sites can take several days to ensure they are setup for after the damage. Also getting into an evacuation area after it is closed is extremely difficult and can further delay things.
