I like to read while it's slow and just came across an interesting tidbit about Google:

“Using a technique called “split A/B testing,” Google continually introduces tiny permutations in the way its sites look and operate, shows different permutations to different sets of users, and then compares how the variations influence the users’ behavior...”

Do you guys think this is what PickFu is or am I reading too much into it? This was written in 2009 so it only mentions doing this testing at an in-house lab, but it's interesting to see how these concepts have only grown since the book was published. He even goes on about eye-tracking as well.

It's a book called "The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains". It's quite fascinating and seems very well-researched.

Is it worth the read? PickFu does do A/B testing but I am unaware of any affiliation with Google. I do know though they did quite a bit a testing for DuckDuckGo. I can't tell you how many times I had to decide on whether something as simple as a 16px x 16px icon was better over another.

It's a little dated now but I think it might ring truer now than it did when it was published. He talks a lot about the Internet changing the way we read and absorb information--how it improves shallow absorption of information at the cost of deep reading. I've personally observed this change in myself since I got a smartphone so it's been interesting to read the research that revealed it.

I was more talking about the concept of A/B testing rather than Google itself sponsoring PickFu. I find it fascinating to see what the actual mechanisms and logic are behind the research I contribute to.

Oh I can believe that, the new constant need to be connected and the masses desperately seeking likes and having to share every aspect of their lives. Recently I have been reading quite a bit about research into the adaptation of smartphones and behavior and mental health of U.S. teenagers. I started going down the rabbit hole of how technology has impacted our lives in not so good ways and the plot only seems to thicken.

Did anybody do the 4.00 hit fromLindsey. i spent an hour with 30second wait times between clicks and then another 50 questions after that with the hour and 15min.timer running out. then when I get the code the main mturk page is of course gone. I remember her other hit a while back it had long wait times between bubble clicks also. i want to report her to her school . she also gave me a rejection for that other hit for clicking too much to get it to go faster. I realized it was her after I was in it too long. I need her school professor or number .
