I guess I just have a more optimistic view of turkers than you do lol. I don't feel like you'd have a 50% Derpy McDumbass rate; maybe 10-20% at worst.

But if, theoretically, 50% of people that completed a hit weren't compensated, a snapshot of pay rate that doesn't take that into consideration (whether their doing or the requester's) gives people who are relying on the reviews an unrealistic expectation of how much money they will make. The real world equivalent would be taking a $20/hr job, only to find out that 50% of former hires have completed all the work and not been paid a dime for it. Regardless of the quality of those former hires, I'd feel more comfortable taking an $18/hr job where I know I'll actually get paid.

With the theory behind how Mturk is supposed to work I'd argue that if you had a 50%+ reject rate there's something wrong with how the HIT is packaged, barring someone outright scamming you.
