I actually also had some guides for even less (~$300) that give even better $/performance ratios with the same amount of RAM.

But I set up that guide with Coffee Lake so that it could be a forward-looking and mildly overpowered computer with all modern upgrades available.

    I used to run several:

    And so did my brother:

But if you have decent enough vision that you can read the text on a fairly modern Android phone, I still think anyone with Windows 10 would be better-served with a single high-res (preferably 4K if you can afford it) monitor. A lot of people complain that they can't see the text on high-res monitors, but here's the trick: Scoot the monitor CLOSER (at least as close as you'd hold a high-DPI phone to read it). That's the one "elusively obvious" tip that makes this whole process possible at all for most people. Manual zoom is crazy, huh? It's insane to me that people complain about not being able to see things, and then I see their setups, and those things are WAY TOO FAR AWAY. If you could fit more than a head and a half in the gap between you and your monitor, you're doing it wrong.

Benefits of single high-res monitor over multi-monitor include:

    - You don't have to crane your neck around. If you aren't careful with your arrangement of windows, you'll find that you often keep your neck turned one way or the other, which isn't great for ergonomics at all. Hell, if you set up like my brother did (2x2 grid), you don't even have a "center monitor". Putting your head in a neutral position in his setup just means staring at a bezel.

    - Your GPU will thank you. Synchronizing across multiple monitors is a PITA. Most notably, it's VERY DIFFICULT for a GPU to maintain accelerated canvases when moving a window from one monitor to another. Depending on your video card, it handles this in one of several possible ways: Duplicating the video buffer 1x for each screen (which solves the issue but eats VRAM extremely quickly), or just basically giving up on video acceleration for windows that are dragged from their initial draw context.

    - You won't burn in an image on the "mostly passive" side panels (Ever see a store with a burnt-in LCD, maybe on a fast food menu? Don't be them.)

You won't have to frequently ask "where the F#%@ did I leave my cursor?!" (or write AHK macros for each screen to center the cursor on that screen, like I ended up doing).

    - It's a lot easier to transport a single high-res monitor, whether you end up needing to move from one room to another, or one country to another (I finally got my brother to cave in and switch from his 4-monitor setup to a single 4K when he had to go to Taipei to work on mixing some music for a movie over there).

    - Virtual desktop functionality in Windows 10, snapping windows to corners, and keybinds for this functionality (+GridMove), make a single monitor behave very similarly to multiple monitors (but better in some ways, i.e., your cursor always stays in the same relative position on-screen when you swap desktops).

    - If you end up Turking on a laptop or another computer for any length of time, your workflow stays pretty much the same.

I'll answer this in a sec because I have to take a breather from digging for photos in the last quote lmao.
