Hometown, about 90 minutes away from the Twin cities in Minnesota, so we're not a big expensive hub or anything. In fact, our population is over half college students since we have three universities and two colleges within 10 miles. Our venue is going to be for both the ceremony and reception, and they're going to cater the main meal at somewhere between $18-22 a head. They don't have a liquor license though, so I don't know how much that will be.

Planning to go the David's Bridal route, yeah. We don't have one in town, so I have to make a bit of a drive, but I think it'll be worth it. I found the exact dress I want for $150 at Light in the box online, but I don't think I should trust an online source for something so important.

Parents are giving me $1000 as a gift which will help. Not sure how much the in-laws are giving. In the end, it just seems like a lot, though. My main job's salary is $48,000, which nearly all goes to my mortgage and bills. (You'd think I'd be able to make more since I have my Masters, but public sector jobs are pretty cheap in reality.) Fiancee is between jobs and going to grad school, so lots of student loans freaking her out. Might have to get her turking as well.

if some of those bills are student loan stuff, just check to make sure you don't qualify for some of those discharge options for working in the public sector. I know nothing of them, except every time I ask for a forbearance they ask me if I'm being a saintlike human and using my degree to do good. (teachers, nurses, social workers, etc). Might help :dunno:

weddings are stupid expensive and you'll be so excited and flustered you won't remember much of it anyway. Good luck with the planning!

    Thanks for the good luck!

I don't have student loans myself, thanks to scholarships and my parents both being retired and getting a shitton of grants on my FAFSA in result. I hope my fiancee gets a public sector job, though! She's going for education, so I think it's likely. Thanks for the tip!

My honest good natured advice to you is to find a small business attorney to sit down with for an hour to run through things. $250 is a very small price to pay and the advice is usually worth its weight in gold & silver for years. YMMV, I found it slightly more helpful than just hiring a CPA. Plenty of them criss-cross over various lines since its all inter-connected.

Even the most idiotic fly by night "register your double-super-secret no taxes LLC for $100" places are infinitely better than this forum (and reddit). Especially in your case where your ventures are varied and you are acting in many roles.

Your own risk management & comfort levels are none of my business, but a lot of people operate under the "well I've done it this way and didn't get audited" and "I'm too small for anyone to bother coming after me" principles when spouting advice on the Internet & Google makes that all the easier to get away with at face value.

Sorry, I generally try to stay far far away from telling folks what to do in their personal business nowadays, but you seem to be successful in all your mini-startups and IME it was worth steering away from casual Internet advice.
