@Hummingbirdee I just heard a pilot say " I don't know a pilot at the airport that isn't afraid of heights."

Can you confirm?

 

Matt and I tried to think of a pilot we know that doesn't have some sort of fear of heights and we couldn't think of one off hand. I don't even think of heights the same way in a plane as I do standing on a rope bridge or whatever. Most pilots I know can comfortably rationalize the safety of a plane vs just being up high.

Matt says a fear of heights is the most natural thing in the world (which I agree with) but it's the people who can rationalize the risk reward who overcome it and go flying.

That being said, I will NEVER jump out of a plane again unless my life literally depends on it. I like being in the plane, not jumping into the fucking sky.

At the airport we worked at, they had a flight tower from the 50s and the stairs were SUPER spaced apart with gaps. I almost pissed my pants going down the steps because I have short legs and I once slipped on them in the rain. I thought I was the only one, but it turned out all the bros were trying to keep a tough face while I white knuckled the railing on the way down.

The first time Patrick flew was our 1st trip to the Yucatan. I thought he was going to break my hand as we started lining up on the runway. But the second the wheels left the tarmac he was cool as could be. Just stared out the window, over me , the whole flight. Giddy, for 3 and a half hours!

He went skydiving shortly after we got back. Still afraid of heights.

I've flown totally open cockpit. It's THE BEST. Except for the one time my dress got caught on the plane and everybody saw my spankies.
