Wassail​

​

Wassailing is the ancient custom of singing loudly outside someone's house until the homeowner gives the singers booze to go away. The preferred drink was "wassail" made from ale, curdled cream, roasted apples, eggs, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and sugar.

Today the tradition survives as 'caroling,' which is usually more polite and involves less public drunkenness.​
