You're interpreting data incorrectly, because you're not considering enough layers of context.

Consider this: Who is more likely to take the time to leave a review on TO?
A: Someone who did 100 HITs which were promptly approved and paid.
B: Someone who did 100 HITs which were promptly rejected.

Have you ever worked in customer service, in a position where you deal with customer complaints?
If you have, how many times have you dealt with the wrath of an angry customer,
compared to the amount of times you've gotten gratitude and pats on the back?

When you interpret data, you have to consider every bias that might influence the pattern of that data.

It's really dangerous to give data to average people, because they're lulled into a false sense of confidence that they can tell what it means.

We should give out Stable Genius badges when people argue with others but also "don't care about people who are wrong."

That said, blocking out things by turker reviews when I've seen the same HIT get rated $13/hr on TV and $3 on TO is definitely not a solid move imo

Bandwagon fallacy no. Rather I'm somebody who is speaking from experience from working on mturk. Researching Mturk before I even started here I was issued a shit ton of warnings from several sources saying to WATCH OUT FOR SHADY REQUESTERS and take precautions which is why a rating system such as TO was even developed in the first place.

So I heeded the warnings, took the precautions as suggested, and downloaded the suggested scripts so that I could avoid any potential rejections by using the TO system and it worked very good as I'm like at 99. something approval with almost 20k hits approved.

I mean you're experienced on this website it sounds like. So you don't think there has or is a problem with a very large % of requesters looking to take advantage of this mturk system where when they do so, they KNOW they will not suffer any repercussions as there is no safe guard for mturk workers themselves offered by Amazon.

 

Understandable. But in the case of shitty TO reviews what you are speaking of is the minority. Most blood red TOS are deservingly so. Well, I can't speak for certain that most red TOS are deserved, but that only makes sense when TO ratings are provided by several hundred workers across the boards.

 

99 is not terribly difficult to keep, even if you pretty much ignore review averages.

 

my highest paying requester who I've never gotten a rejection from has a 3.4 for pay on TO. Just saying
