Those of you on PCs, are you using windows 8 or windows 10? Any difference in the mturk workflow between the two?

I use 8 but put a shell on it that makes it look like 7. i'm not trying to change anytime soon

 

I'm on 10.

8 was junk compared to 7. 10 fixed a lot of issues and added a ton of features, performance, quality of life stuff.

As far as turking. I'm not sure.

 

Windows 10, huge difference.

You get virtual desktops on Windows 10, which is huge if you're working on an undocked laptop or some other single-screen situation.

Windows+Tab brings up the interface that lets you see desktops, move windows between desktops, create/remove desktops, and select a specific one.

Ctrl+Windows+Left and Ctrl+Windows+Right allow you to quickly and easily move between desktops (especially helpful on a laptop that you're actually using mouseless in your lap, with subpar cursor control).

The side-by-side snapping is also expanded so that you can snap to quadrants by dragging to a corner, rather than just snap to sides by dragging to a side.

All of this is W10-specific, so if you're using 8, you don't get any of it.

I'm really sick of these ugly ass colors on 8, the title bar/window border colors look terrible with the rest of the windows, especially on Firefox. But I don't like updating unless I really have to.

That's definitely reassuring!

All of those features sound great, and like ones I would use all the time.


I'm just worried about potential unforeseen issues, since that happens with almost any major update, be it on my phone or computer. Maybe it'll fix a lot of things but then there will be that *one* very specific thing that you don't even realize how much you rely on, that just won't work anymore for whatever reason. Probably would get used to it eventually but it's making me hesitate.

Nevertheless, your post is nudging me towards making the switch!

 

I'm on Win 7 - roommate is trying to talk me into Win 10- says it's way better. Told me to ask you guys what you thought, so this coming up today is interesting.
