Ya, we started an education fund when they were really young. But we lived in Canada then and when we moved to the U.S. we couldn't keep contributing to that. We had no idea if we would still be here and didn't know where we should put the money for their education so my husband just invested it. But I'm with you, if the grades aren't there, we would not be paying! Thankfully we are in a good school district and didn't have to do the whole private school thing. I can't imagine that!

I totally understand what you are saying, my wife and I both had rough childhoods and our only goal has been to give our children an opportunity to succeed. We are both high school drop outs, but not in the normal way. We had no support. Her mother passed when she was 15 and then was put into a program that basically provided no support. By the time she was 17 was living on her own. I had an abusive and alcoholic family and was trying to do school and work at the same time living on peoples couches to avoid the reality of my home life.
I was 18 when I met her and she soon got pregnant, from that point on when fought our asses off to make things work. Our children have seen everything that we have fought for, from money troubles to going to school and working full time jobs. They have seen the importance of working and working hard for what you want and I believe that they will be very successful.
As my oldest is now getting acceptance letter after acceptance letter I have never been more proud as a parent. I have always taught them how important school is but I never wanted them to feel like they needed to be perfect, for me that has worked so far. There is still time for them to mess up but I hope that we have given them the tools to be all they can be.

Matt grew up with a tiny bit more money than I did to say the least! I've moved up an economic class or two from where I was growing up, and that is still poor to him He thinks it's weird I didn't have a maid come by at least once a week, and did all my friends not have a cleaning lady? He works hard and has a great job literally designing a space ship, so I'd say he's done very well with the chances he grew up with. His madre is very proud, and rightfully so! Shoot, I'm proud! I tell everyone I ever meet that my man designs pneumatics for things that go to freaking space and I will show literally anyone I meet his cnn segment lol. I once showed the checkout lady at Aldi.
