I have over 300 hours in Civ 5 over the last handful of years. RIP all of your free time for a few weeks if you take the plunge.
My girlfriend is getting me Civ 6 for Christmas. Can't wait!

 

OH if you don't mind a really old game, Alpha Centauri is a really good one. It's actually really complex and some of the videos for the secret projects are gold, and also some are hella creepy. Civilization: Beyond Earth is the inferior spiritual successor of it. I'd strongly recommend getting the expansion pack for Alpha Centauri, Alien Crossfire, because it makes it so much better. Though trying to promote a 17 year old 4X turn based game is probably not the easiest thing, and if you're used to newer games it might be a bit difficult to get the controls down at first, but it's 100% gold and the combo Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire is only $5.99 so good deal It is strongly in my top 10 games

 

I have the Civ 5 base game...but never really got into it.
Played the hell out of Civ 4 though......so many games, so little time.

 

Ah, I remember Alpha Centauri. It is a relly old game, but I'm pretty sure a Sid Meier fan can play any of his games. I still load up Pirates every now and then.

If you have the base game, get the complete edition. The Civ 5 base game has a ton of flaws and the expansions (Gods & Kings and Brave New World) fix most of them and make Civ 5 a really enjoyable experience.

I played the hell out of that game when it first came out. My new wife at the time peeked at the screen and saw that I was "Morgan of the Morganites".

She thought that was the nerdiest damn thing she's ever seen...

 

I can still remember the first and second times I played it. First time, it was like five minutes and I got completely bored and quit. Second time I was tired of Diablo 2 so I figured I'll give it another shot and I ended up playing until sunrise. Good times.

Morgan was always fun to incite into war, make him sign an eternal pact of servitude, and bully him for his tech and credits lmao
