The problem is that competition isn't feasible. Starting an ISP includes astronomically high start-up costs, as well as major maintenance costs. As such, realistically, you're going to be stuck with the same people for a long time. Hell, they're all merging with each other, too, creating even less "competition." Charter Spectrum is now the second-largest cable provider in the nation.

Services like Verizon FiOS and Google Fiber are nice, but they aren't expanding. Verizon has stopped expanding in certain areas due to agreements in place that they preferred over pursuing their own build-out. Google Fiber is slow to expand and who knows if they'll truly flesh it out or if it's just another one of Alphabet, Inc.'s various dead-end ventures.

This leaves us with only regulation to deal with the problems faced by consumers of these ISPs. However, with the new administration loathing regulation, that's not going to happen. They might even roll back some very important regulation, like the "common carrier" regulation imposed by the FCC that prohibits ISPs from gating content off (see: essentially extorting backbone providers and Netflix).

Traditionally, yes, competition is key to ensuring that prices are reasonable and people aren't messing around. They stand to lose customers to the competition should they piss too many people off. However, when you are in an industry where providing any meaningful amount of service requires tens of millions of dollars, you create virtual monopolies or duopolies in certain markets. Hell, there were even laws in place that explicitly prohibits municipalities from offering internet service, even in under-served areas. Though, I'm not sure if Obama's FCC overturned that.

    1. If he is not that around usually when he was not supposed to be, you could talk to him in a regular way or even show what you are doing on the screen.
    2. If he makes a habit of showing up when he was not supposed to me, say he knows you are working.
    OR
    3. Say, burn in hell you fucking polar bear, you know I had some shit to do, go make me some fried penguins and leave me alone you polarhole.

Well I maintain that counting on those mostly know nothing boobs in gov. to solve your problems isn't going to work. They have no expertise and most of what they do is for their own benefit. Every regulation and corporate tax costs 'you' money. Companies just don't eat these costs, you do. Remember corporations don't pay taxes, ever.

I think there are a couple old farts (in mTurk years) who still hang around here. I think I've seen @TuMadre also mention MTF a few times as well lol.
