When I was a kid, I couldn’t finish my hot dog but was distressed at the idea of not being able to eat the rest and my dad told me to put it in my pocket and save it for later.

Hours later, I pulled a pocket lint covered hot dog out of my pocket and started eating it casually in front of a friend’s parents. My dad had to explain what a “joke” was to me and that didn’t actually stop me, I just learned to be sneaky about it.

I ended up in trouble for stashing a bagel that I lovingly wrapped in a paper towel in my jacket pocket and I’m still mad cause I don’t see why that was an issue. I wanted it for later dammit!

 

If no one is around other than family I let my daughter eat her stored food or food she dropped on the ground - within reason. I also store food for later and I carry around napkins just for this occasion, and foil wrap. Although once I did leave barbacoa in my diaper bag for three days in the cooler pocket by accident because I forgot I had stored it. It was awful.

As long as you've wrapped it I think it's an issue.

 

I always carry a marmalade sandwich under my hat, in case of emergencies.

 

I just got grounded for a lot of wacky reasons as a kid. Iirc, I'm actually still grounded from getting a bad grade in college (he has also never lifted a punishment from like 11th grade) , despite it not having any real effect on my gpa long term and the fact I never lived at home again. My dad was still enforcing this a few years back and I haven't been to his house recently, so I'm pretty sure it would still stand if I came back to visit. Probably until I die.

I was a total goody two shoes (ok, still am) and my version of rule breaking was pretty tame, so it's kinda funny I got grounded so much in comparison to Matt, who was basically the spawn of Satan.
