Contacting them seems way too much like conflict. If my responses had been good enough, they would have requested more. As I wasn't contacted, I can only assume I didn't meet the quality of work they expected.

No one was contacted. If you really want your followups that much you're going to have to be the one to contact them about potentially increasing the timer and/or making the hits drop later in the day.
