Thank you very much for your email. First of all, I am so sorry that we wasted your time and energy in this way, as well as that of your friends on the MTurk forum. We had a bug in our survey that caused the prompts from Google as well as another error. As a result, we are compensating everyone who submits the survey. The error was definitely on our end. Please submit the HIT now using your MTurk ID as the survey code and please ask everyone you are talking to to do the same, and you will definitely be compensated for your time. We are having trouble keeping up with the volume of emails we have received, but we will reply to every one!
However, you and others have pointed out a serious issue: We did not realize that MTurk terms of service would not allow us to ask you to send the survey to your friends. The good news is, since it was the “confidential recruiter” that had an error, no one actually did invite their friends. We have cancelled this batch of HITs and are compensating everyone. Moreover, we are submitting an Adverse Event report to our research ethics board, and we are changing our survey to remove the friend recruitment part.
I am very sorry for the time you spent and frustration that you felt. Please submit the HIT now with your MTurk ID, and you will definitely be compensated. Also, please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. Thank you very much for your participation.
