when my daughter was 17 she was in an accident with her then boyfriend who flipped his truck reaching for hiss phone (dumb @#$$%^^& idiot is lucky Dave didn't kill him when we got there) thankfully both were fine EMT's checked them both out at the scene and we took Ana home. about a month later Ana was getting collection calls from the ambulance company so I got on the phone and told them that the other r person's auto ins should be covering this and gave them the information. Women was very nice said yes I was right they will go ahead and take care of that. about a year and a half later Ana gets a letter cause the ambulance company got a judgment against her or something and this is now on her credit report. She calls them and is like first off I was a minor when this happened and second this should have been covered by auto ins. There response oh you were a minor we will fix it....they sent it to collections on Dave and put it on his credit report

 

Ouch to the motorcyle accident! Sorry you went thru that. It's been not so fun for Matt to go thru.

My longest stay was 10 months with less than 2 weeks at home throughout (I actually got out for 2 days at one point, right back in, then out for a few more days and back in. Lucky me). We were expecting a bill of a couple grand for Matt, but it should definitely not be this much. He has a good insurance policy through his job and they pay the premium, so all we pay is up to the out of pocket (not terrible for the year and considering they pay my premium too). But, of course, can't count on anyone to process things correctly. We actually had his doctor's office tell us our insurance policy wasn't even valid and I was standing there on the phone with our insurance who was extremely confused.

Blows my mind.

When I was 19, the hospital wanted to know why I had such a piddly insurance policy (thru Clemson lol) and asked why my parents didn't have me on their policy. It was for over 100k and I laughed my ass off when they asked for full payment.

It's cute you think I have 6 figures of expendable income as a 19 year old college student. They ended up giving me a credit and using me as a tax write off cause I had such a tiny income and what 19 year old thinks their heart/lungs are going to crap out/ I couldn't afford anything better at the time. My doctors called both my parents to ask them to put me on their insurance (and I could and would have paid my premium and out of pocket myself) and they both refused like the sterling people they are and the hospital ended up putting me in a program for low income people with shitty health conditions. My neuro doc billed me as if I had a better policy for a couple years too (so I was getting charged like 20 bucks a visit ) cause he was a Clemson alum who didn't want me to drop out of college and I suspect that's why they referred me over to him. I would drive 2 hours to see him even when I had a better policy cause he was such a peach and that's hard to find.

My dad ended up claiming me on his taxes no less when he had 0 right to. He was not pleased with me when he got fined but he almost fucked me out of my medical care help because he wanted a credit for me even though he paid 0 my personal expenses and I left home as soon as I turned 18 lol.

Healthcare is such a nightmare. I'm basically Matt's healthcare sherpa cause he's the most robust human on the planet and I'm usually halfway to my own death. It's a bizarre situation for us to be reversed right now and I'd prefer we go back to him being the healthy one thank you very much.

 

It's truly bonkers. It just shouldn't be this difficult to deal with. Sorry you're dealing with that!
