It's basically a completely different plotline but Jumanji is still gonna try and kill you with shenans. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if it had been some direct remake or whatnot (and I didn't watch it till after I found out it wasn't trying to be the original, so much as a spin off). It's pretty much a fun blockbuster popcorn flick that just has the common thread of getting suck into Jumanji the game itself. It's not life altering or anything, but sometimes I just wanna watch an entertaining movie that's done well. Matt and I both liked it as well, which is always a good indicator something has a broad appeal cause we don't typically like the same things. (the honest trailer is funny, but obvs gives up more of the plot...but the plot isn't really why you watch that one lol)

I liked the callback in the film, without it bashing you over the damn head. I hate it when re-boots are just the same thing with new people. NOBODY NEEDS THAT. The fact it was interesting on its own, while also paying homage to the original, was a nice touch.

 

I like the idea of an insidious game changing itself over time to be whatever's more popular in the modern era to play with groups of friends. I might actually watch the new movie at this point.
