It was weird back in the day. I used to get some sideways looks when I walked up to the cashier of a used book store with about 10 books on killers, abusers, criminals, and all the things many people want to look away from.

I got away with it because I studied psychology and that was my focus on it. Now? It's cool to be into true crime, which is great, because I think the citizen sleuth can make a huge difference in solving many crimes.

For me I want to understand the killer and motivations and even the genetics. They are finding genes that might contribute to the disorders that would lead one to being able to commit such acts without remorse. Fascinating!!!

(Side note, I'm 50 so not a cool, young kid so it really has been over 30 years I've been studying, researching and talking to people about this interest!)

I have seen some weird shit in my time as most people that are on the internet a lot will if they want to or not. The main thing is that I wouldn't be thrown off if I saw it unless it was some next level shit.

I think it's interesting for a lot of people because it's fascinating to try and understand motivations so different from your own even if you think they are horrible. Morbid curiosity and so forth.

Half the fun for us is just debating what we think actually happened because we both like to analyze shit and it's a bit more stimulating than just watching 2 hours of sitcoms every night. We get a little heated. :emoji_laughing:

Even creepier to know I'm getting ready to do what I gotta do to create more of these.

I'll start a subforum in the social area with all the pics of my house when I'm done decorating this weekend if anyone is interested. I'll do nighttime pics with the lights an daytime pics so you can see what things look like in the sunlight. And also a gallery of my preserved buddies :)

Other people can also post their fun Halloween decor, I'd LOVE to see it! I know people are better at it than I am and I could use more inspiration!!

Hey, psych degree buddies for the win!

And yes, very much agreed. I think the internet and high quality documentaries were especially useful in normalizing certain interests, because it was easier to see a ton of people had the same interest, and that it wasn't actually that weird to enjoy. Crime and horror has always been of interest to people, there was obsessive news coverage and theories about so many crimes throughout history and crime novels have always been exceptionally popular since serialized literature made its entrance- but the increase in entertainment options and ways for people to share that interest together has definitely made it socially acceptable, which is a good thing tbh.
