Getting HITs from here (or HN) doesn't mean you're a bad worker at all. I've been lazy as hell the last couple of weeks and been relying on this place for all my qual HITs lol. If you're able to read a TO review for a survey that calls the requester the spawn of satan for using an AC and know they're an idiot, congrats you qualify as an intelligent worker in my book.

Sorry, that may have sounded more harsh than I meant it. But there are a lot of workers who can't even get that far.

 

So... I just spent $120 at target to start a project...

Every "partner" I get tries to do 4 of these at once or is about as derp derp as a rock dropped on its head repeatedly

That still makes you probably intelligent and self-sufficient. This implies experience. Without going HAM on mTurk, tracking down special quals and dedicating a huge amount of time, your best bet is to work with other workers and see what they are doing, pay attention over time, maximize your return for investment. This site is right in that metric.

Going super-HAM on mTurk can have mixed results. You can get zero for the extra effort, or pick up a nice, tidy little special qual. Overall it takes time, though, and TO is a pretty good tool in a broad spectrum of tools and methods to maximize your efforts.

I bought nine 14 x 14 magnetic boards that I'm spray painting matte black.
Then I have over 4,000 magnetic letters and numbers I am putting on the boards and then hanging them up on my wall.
