I just joined and I'm having a terrible time making any money. Will I have better luck or is $1/hr the norm?

I average $20/hr+ and while that is high you must be doing something wrong is if you are doing that badly.

What scripts are you using to panda and scrape ect?

When you first start you're on sort of a probationary period. You will see fewer HITs than someone who has done 5000 or 10000 HITs. Work on getting your numbers up for now to get quicker access to more work. Do batches, steer clear from sketchy requesters. Use scripts to help you identify good or bad requesters. I recommend visiting the script section here and reading up on MTurk Suite and TurkerViewJS as well as doing a search on google for Turking scripts., also google Tampermonkey and greasyfork. I also suggest installing https://github.com/Kadauchi/mturk-suite if only for hit tracker and some QOL features.

Now first thing you really need to do if your mturk account is brand new is to do some safe hits to get your approval rating up opening up more work and giving yourself buffer.

I don't know off hand what stuff would be good to get your buffer up to 1k / 5k but one thing worth noting is that it is worth checking out the TO page https://turkopticon.ucsd.edu/ on stuff to make sure that they aren't reject happy as you obviously won't know about the bad requesters like p9r is garbage ect yet.


Oh and one last thing is right now is off-peak hours so it is harder to find work even if there can be lots of stuff I find that from 6AM PT to around 3PM PT is when the bulk of the work goes up and weekends are also kind of slow.
