    Sorry. I'm way behind. I have a masters degree in professional counseling. But if you JUST want to do addiction counseling, you can get away with an associates degree and 4000 hours of client contact. Since I got my masters, I skipped the client contact requirement (even though I more than met it with crisis clients) for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and I also have my Licensed Professional Counselor Intern license so I'm accruing 3000 hours towards that license. Sorry that's really long winded.

    TLDR: School.
