sorry to hear addiction is a shit.

 

Oh it is what it is. We have tried and tried to get her help, just for her to fall off the wagon. I actually gave up this time, but my poor older sister is still trying to help her...

 

Currently in the same spot with my brother, including the "gave up" it's a painful journey. Hugs.

 

One of my brothers has been an addict since he was 13 years old. He's now 48. He finally got clean 3 years ago. For the first time in 16 years, he has his license, he is off all probation and parole, he can leave the state legally, and he has a great job. It can happen, but not until they're ready. His drug of choice was heroin so it wasn't easy for him. But he did it.

 

We did the tough love the last time and it helped her for a while and then she got mixed with a new boyfriend who got her re hooked. The good thing is they broke up and is staying with her ex and his mom so I am hoping they will get her cleaned up again (that is a big part of what helped her the last time). I am just sad for her 3 beautiful kids. 2 are with the other ex. The one is with the recent ex but she was just leaving her with him ..*editing to add yes he can watch her but he and his mom both have to work so it gets hard..

It really hurts to have to accept that your closest family won't let you help them.

 

to all of you, it's impossibly difficult to go through that, and i know it's not always easy to talk about it either. hang in there, you guys are awesome.

 

My brother won't take care of his mental health issues, and almost 3 years ago his son commited suicide. It kills me to just step back because I'm feeling that pain (to a MUCH lesser degree) too, but he wants meth to fix everything, so what can you do? You just watch and hope and pick up the pieces and maybe tomorrow he'll see the light.

 

Truly, don't lose hope. We thought my brother was lost to it forever. But, after 32 years, by the grace of God he didn't die, and he completely turned his life around. It can still happen!

 

i'm so sorry for your loss. i "lost" (not dead, just "gone") someone very very close to me to pretty serious mental health issues, it's horrible to watch that spiral firsthand. i hope you don't lose your brother too. like tracy said, there's always hope.

 

Thank you, and I'm sorry for you too. It's hard when someone is "gone" but you still see them. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's a lonely pain.
