They usually just learn eventually, hopefully. As long as the dogs aren't trying to like...maul the cats, I let them learn the hard way if they won't listen to me when I say cut it out. We had that german shepherd that kept fucking with the cats and we had to put her in time out a good bit. She eventually started getting the point though. She got Grinch slapped a bunch of times before she finally picked it up though. If Skeeter or Frank get snippy with the cats, I send them outside and they get the point.

I did once have a dog I was fostering who I had to give to someone else because he kept trying to full stop murder Bearnie though. That was sad, dog had aggresion issues though.

 

I'd say stick with the reinforcement for now for sure, good luck! In the end I just thinks its amusing because the cat always wins.

He mostly just sniffs at her or licks her butt, then she starts hissing and scratching at him which causes him to bark nonstop at her and jump at her. He doesn't bite at her, more just paws at her. I am going to try and teach the "leave it" command and hopefully that can help. Currently if things get to bad I just bring her up to the bedroom since she loves to just lay on our bed.

 

NOSTALGIA TRIP - REMEMBER WHEN PEOPLE CALLED EACH OTHER ON PHONES?!?!

 

My cats basically jumped that german shepherd when she kept chasing them. I found her in a corner with all 3 cats hissing and slapping her like lunatics & I saw Bearnie literally jump on her and start biting her. I broke it up, but she flinched for awhile every time one of the cats walked near her.

I'm uh, I'm pretty sure that was the equivalent of being cornered in an alleyway by an angry gang. Bearnie don't take shit apparently.
