If the fan you bought has a 3pin like you mentioned all you need to do is plug it into the SYS fan I think that is what I circled here but it is hard to see in the picture. You should be able to ignore the molex and just leave it as is lol

Can I get a fan with the molex? All the fans seem to use the molex and hook together. I can't trace where what they're hooked to goes. This may sound weird, but they seem to all go to the on off switch/power supply. I'm probably full of shit, tho.

Thanks for the help. I just want one with the molex that comes off the three pins like this one to make matters easiest. I hope I can find one.

Yeah you can just hook it up through the molex if it has one. They kind of just daisy chain together. It is worth noting that if you use through molex only it will be at 100% fan speed but it will work.

That is how they're hooked up now.

And holy chit I just laid on the floor for a good few minutes trying to find what you circled. It's all buried under there! Why is there only one hookup for a sys fan? And where are the fans hooked up to now if that's available?

If any of the other fans he has goes out I'm going to have to do molex because I have no clue where they plug in to!

And I found another fan. The fan I was looking at yesterday is his cpu fan. The graphics card has a fan, but it's underneath the card and I never saw it until I laid on the floor to find the sys fan plug.

Five fans. His computer has five fans. No wonder it's so fucking loud.

If he has 5 fans hooked up through molex it would be fucking loud because they would be running at 100% all the time.

The CPU cooler has its own input but good motherboards normally have a bunch of fan headers. I think at least.... The one I ended up with my computer that I built in 2011 has 4 + the CPU one.

This. I didn't even know you could plug the fans directly into molex  TIL, but maybe this is why my graphics card is RIP

Graphics cards have their own fan controller so unless the other fans in your case died or w/e that wouldn't be why.

Three fans hooked up through molex. One is the CPU fan that is plugged into its cpu plug. The other is the graphics card that I assume is powered by that. So three molex. Where the heck do those plug in?

Yeah, this was a cheap computer. But he was buying his first gaming computer at 12 years old and paying for it by himself so it wasn't like he could afford much better. By the time this one dies he can afford better (hell, he can right now if he wanted to).

He's been paying for all of his video games since he was 10, also. I do get him gift cards as presents but otherwise, all his own money. I just asked him and he's pretty sure he has at least 100 games on Steam alone (some free).

Nope, no matter how much older you are than me there is no way I get to be called a baby, lol. I turned 50 this year, so that officially takes me out of any "baby" zone :)

Only 100? Also did he buy a prebuilt or the individual parts? I think 14 is old enough to start looking at building your own PC, though he's a few years from upgrading if it's only 2 years old.

If the fan you bought has a molex cable you should be able to plug it into the other molex cables lying around orgy style or even better would be another cable from the power supply that isn't being used. If it is a modular power supply with removal cables the power supply box may have other cable with more molex plugs on it that you can plug in.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on here

    upload_2019-1-5_19-23-56.png

But it might be molex to sata power adapters or some shit... really not 100% sure from just that photo but that is most likely what it is.

Prebuilt. Bought it when he was 12. I think he might build his next one. He wanted to build this one but once we started pricing it out he didn't have the money at 12 years old and I refused to pay for it.
