You can get screened out for a variety of reasons. 18 or older is just the mturk requirement to register on the site. A requester could require that you be 21 or older to do their survey, or they could require older than that as well. Or require certain political affiliations, genders, interests etc..

 

Like a Turing test only you have to discern between an "english" speaking baby bot and someone who learned English from Michael bay movies and GTA IV

Haha VG was the same way, they feed human generated questions to a computer to try to "teach" it how humans ask questions. Same for the responses. Eventually they iterate and the questions (should) get better & better as batches go along. Or they don't and they disappear because funding gets pulled for being shitty AI devs/collecting copious amounts of useless data

HI-Research (idk if they still post, haven't done 'em in a while) was pretty good to follow along their development over time. Their AI got noticeable better over time (IMO).

 

Yeah and I think VG just gave up after being scammed or w/e by scripted resonses or w/e that whole debacle was.
