Ok, I have my searches set at a certain timer 800milsecs. in my case. But i've noticed as I add more they all are searching slower. Is it only 1 search per timer tick? Not all of them at the same time?

 

If you watch their search counts you can see the first one go up by one, then the second one, then the third one, etc. It cycles through them one by one, so the more you have running the slower each one will be.

 

Damn so it is per tick then. So how the hell are you supposed to catch all the good stuff then?

 

You have to limit your PANDAs to the ones you want the most. You can run more if there's not as much competition for those HITs. You just have to try out different variations and find what works best for the work you're trying to grab.

This is why searchers like Overwatch exist.

Instead of catching HITs, it searches for HITs that meet some criteria (i.e., posted by a certain requester, has a certain keyword in the title).

All of these search terms are combined into one page request, so you don't have to waste 60 page requests over the course of a minute just to find out that none of those HITs are posting right now.

You only turn your catchers on for a HIT if you have good reason to believe that the HIT is currently or will soon be posting. Turn them off otherwise to increase the odds of the other things actually catching. Man who chases two rabbits catches none.

I personally run no more than maybe 3 catchers at any given moment. If I'm feeling really lucky or indecisive, I might push that to 5 every once in a blue moon. I wrote my catcher with this workflow in mind.

On the other hand, my girlfriend runs like 20-60 survey watchers in Panda Crazy at a time, and it occasionally pays off for her when she ends up collecting a HIT everyone forgot about, hours after it first posted for the day. But she's not a serious Turker, and this strategy wouldn't work out for her at all if she were.

 

Ok, thanks for the info ,. I'm not trying to make significant money off this but enough to help with a few bills.

I think I'll stay with the wide spread pandas and just try to keep them pruned down as much as possible. I've been staying at home with my two young kids so when I'm not activity at the desk looking for stuff panda has been snagging some stuff in the background and I can hear the alerts while I may be changing a diper or something.
