You may be the first. But I do have a great Panda joke. Ahem...

A panda walks into a crowded bar, sits on a stool and orders a meal. The bartender is somewhat perplexed, but serves the order anyway. The panda eats his meal, and then pulls out a gun & shoots into the ceiling before exiting the building. Chaos.

The bartender is beside himself. "What the f*** do you think you're doing? You order a meal, you fire a gun, and you don't even pay for the food?!?" Without missing a step, the panda shouts back, "I'm a panda, man, a PANDA. Look it up!"

The bartender hurriedly pulls out a dictionary and, sure enough, there it is. "Panda: large herbivorous creature, native to China. Characterized by distinctive black and white markings. Eats shoots and leaves."

 

Moral of the story: Oxford commas have never been so important as in a dictionary definition.

I like it. There's also a somewhat pop/bestseller grammar book (if you can imagine such a thing) with the title, more or less the "Freakonomics" of grammar.

 

Self-taught Basic as a kid, learned C/C++ in college and a bit of assembly language, then when the web came along I learned PHP and JS. I briefly worked with a dude who wrote an entire authentication system in Lisp. We let it continue to run for a few years after he left and then eventually overhauled it with a new one written in PHP. We were all pretty happy the day we turned that old server off, me mainly because it sat in my office and it was noisy and heated the place up.

 

What developer hasn't had a "server" running under their desk at work that almost everyone has forgotten about, but has ancient legacy code (probably running in the IDE, on an outdated OS) that they maintain, only to occasionally kick the power cord and take down something important in production?
