01/25 - Make the Money Monday

There is a lot of stuff that I will not buy simply cause I have zero self control and that is one of them. lol

 

Did you ever try the tofu? How'd it go?

 

Kind of lousy actually. I did the cornstarch thing and ate it with a general tso's recipe I found.

I think my issue was I pressed it too hard. I put it between a couple of cast irons and it sort of smashed rather than firmed the cubes. - so after rolling it around in cornstarch and then frying it a bit - it didn't stay very much in chunk form

I'll have to try it again sometime, and I'll be sure to pick up the extra firm stuff and be more careful in pressing out the juices

 

Do you eat tofu often? I've been wanting to try it but I'm so nervous about it (I'm a country girl from Texas. Tofu is not in our vocabulary. lol). I wouldnt even know where to start on simple recipes that are tried and true.

Also, you only want about 2lbs of weight sustained for a bit.

Tofu takes on the flavor and style of how you cook it. You REALLY need to buy the right kind for your application though. Some things want silken and other extra firm; you really can not substitute them at certain points.

for pressing, I let the water drain out of the tofu for a bit, then wrap it in a towel, paper or not, put btwn heavy plates, and put weight on top, let sit for a while.
