I'm only part way through as I'm watching it in the car when waiting for the kiddo, but yeah...I think back in that day, no matter religion, what you spoiled might have been true for many.

yeah, you're 100% right. i have a soft spot for old folks crying and he was really emotional the whole time and seemed remorseful (who knows, though), my empathy gets confused and misdirected whenever i see tears, it's a serious flaw, lol. but you're 100% right, he knew exactly what was going on, and let it happen just to hide the fact that he jerked him off and his wife had an affair. fucking deplorable.

I think the brother was shitty too. He knew his brother was "into little girls" and that he had been convicted of rape. But he said NOTHING when dude brought her to the car lot? He should have caught fucking charges too for being complicit in that. And where was B's wife? She isn't mentioned except 'sucks in bed' and 'getting a divorce' which are years apart

But they took her to the doctor to be checked out thinking that there was something sexual and the doctor said she had not been sexually assaulted. What does a parent believe then?

I mean, I agree with you. How could they be this naive????? How could they not see the flags? But they admit now how stupid they were. I admit I haven't finished it yet, but I'm far enough along to get the gist.

When she came back from the doctor and was pronounced untouched I had a moment of, "oh. So THAT is why it was just the tip!" I totally could not figure that out when it was first mentioned.
