01/29 - Working Wednesday!

Thanks. I work part time with special needs students but it's a split shift early AM and then late afternoon about 2 or so hours each. I love the kids but the money is not enough to really live so I'm trying to do this for most of the mid day and then evening when I get home. So far I'm enjoying it but am now focusing on getting better hits and working efficiently so I can earn the amount I need. I think doing both of these jobs could actually work.

I've made both work. I get up a little earlier than I used to before so I have time to work in the morning. I used to do some on lunch but once Kiddo got into high school I have to pick him up during lunches so I don't really get those anymore. And depending on what I can do on weekends plus in the morning, I'll work at night. But I usually set a cut-off time for myself so I have downtime.

I wasn't always good at taking time off and burnt out really badly a year and a half ago, so I would caution you to be good with giving yourself some time off. In the long run it pays off as you don't fry yourself on this and have to walk away completely for a time. Between both jobs I probably "work" 60 hours per week so I need to be careful since the desk job isn't in my home where I can work in jammies and Netflix on downtime (Which is what makes turking bearable during what used to be free time).

When I started turking there were a lot more mindless batch hits that could be done in the evenings, but not so much any longer.

Just want to say thanks for doing that work. My mom and sister are special ed teachers (well, mom was an assistant is is retired now). I know how difficult, occasionally heartbreaking, and often thankless that line of work can be. Take @tricker's advice to heart and make sure to prioritize your mental health as well, both on mturk and in your other job

Pretty disingenuous reporting, though. There are a number of Corona (beer) / Coronavirus memes, and they don't take into account that maybe people were looking for these or satire pages.

 

@purplepotato 's post made me realize I didn't thank you, also, for doing this work!

Growing up my grandmother worked with the adult special needs. She used to bring me to work with her often and I grew up around a lot of really cool adults with special challenges, but (mostly) very loving people. I was born in the late 60s so these adults had never been mainstreamed as children, and this program was trying to help them function more outside of the special programs and schools they had attended their entire lives. I used to go on field trips with them, too. It was a special job my Nanny did, one I grew to appreciate more and more as I got older, and I realized it takes special people like her and you to work with those who need the extra attention and help.

So go you!!!
