    A simple string in the modem config back in the day could have made an entire generation to never hear that sound from the internal modem speaker.

    I have a 2800 bps modem for a Commodore 64 somewhere. And that's actually 2800, not 28.8K bps. The internet was so fun back then.

    It was message boards and pixel art back then. We got free games in magazines by putting in the code on our own. The next generation gave us a GUI at least.

    it needs to get to either end of that big field for it to really matter, but only counts if someone is holding it and standing up (well, not on the ground).

    And there are guys with whistles. They let everyone know if any of the big dudes with hats and pads broke a rule trying to get the ball to one end while standing up.

    I still have to access a few remote sites using dial-up lines every now and then though its all industrial controls... Damn SCADA devices don't handle YouTube all that well.
