The way it works is the platform starts counting the time as long as the Mturk HIT window/tab is open for the particular hit you're reviewing. You can close the tab and open it back up when you're actually doing the hit, oryou can press the pause timer button. This will get you accurate times on your reviews and therefore more helpful to other turkeys.

 

That is still about 1/8th of my favorite requester's hourly.

 

Also if you want to leave a review anyway, but your time is inaccurate, you can just submit with an empty time field.
