do you guys think it's cheaper or the same with utilities to run a crockpot instead of a stove or oven? crock pots use way less electricity, but they are left on for 8 hours.

The average crock pot uses 120 volts and a range of 0.6 to 2 amps. On average, during an 8-hour cooking cycle, a slow cooker will use 0.7kWh to 0.9kWh which makes it really economical.

Just to paint parallel, it uses a lot less electricity than a light bulb over the same time period. In comparison to most household appliances, the crock pot uses a lot less electricity.

An oven will use somewhere around 2.32kWh to cook the same meal.

I don't know. You need to preheat an oven, so I'm thinking that's always going to use more electricity. You can also choose a smaller crock pot, if you aren't cooking for a family.

 

a site I found - a crock pot cooking for 8 hours supposedly uses 1/3 the amount of electricity as an electric oven cooking for 1 hour.

Awhile back I got one of those Kill-A-Watt things which measures how much electricity is used by whatever is plugged into it. It was pretty cool. Crock pots use very little electricity.

I don't know if I even have a string of regular Christmas lights anymore, I switched to LEDs years ago. CFLs in the house lamp and light sockets are starting to burn out and they're also getting replaced with LEDs. I hope to one day run my entire house on a single 9-volt battery.
